PatchFinder for V12+

PatchFinder allows you to search for details in bug fixes, enhancements and other technical modifications delivered in each of the Sage X3 Releases (Patch levels), along with their references, items and metadata that were modified, attributes and descriptions.

You can use the tool to check if bugs have been references and fixed by Sage, to list all elements that are modified for a fix or for the entire Release, to detect conflicts with your customizations or simply to browse through a release’s behavior changes using the new ‘Behavior change’ flag.

This application runs locally on your Windows device. We plan on delivering a web version shortly that you can deploy on a Web Server or in the Cloud.

How to install or upgrade PatchFinder

PatchFinder is a local application that runs on your Windows PC. Simply download the file and unzip it in a directory of your choice. You can then run the "X3 PatchFinder.exe" file.

Performing a simple search

To perform a search, first select the Product and Releases you would like to examine. Select a minimum Release and a maximum Release by moving the sliders at the right of the Release you have selected.

You can restrict the Product areas you which to search, and the Types of modifications you wish to cover (Bug fixes, enhancements, Entry Points and Others).

Then enter a search term in the Search box and press the Search button. The search term can be one or several words, or any other element present in the data that is displayed.

The Results grid

The results are presented in a grid with the following columns:

  • Key: The internal Product Engineering reference of the modification or bug fix.
  • Type: The modification can be a Bug fix, an Enhancement or an Entry Point delivery. Other technical modifications that fit several of the above definitions or none of them, are also listed under ‘Others’.
  • Summary and Solution details are the title and full description of the modification, or bug fix, including error messages or other details of the behavior or anomaly when relevant.
  • Product area indicates the module the change is implemented in.
  • Objects: This lists all objects and metadata that were modified as part of the change. This includes scripts, tables, screens, global variables, parameters etc. The objects are listed and identified using a 3-letter acronym followed by the object identifier (name). The 3-letter acronyms correspond to those you can find in the Patch Creation function in Sage X3 for object types: ACV for Activity Codes, AMK for Screens, TRT or ADX for scripts…
  • Release indicates the release (patch level) that fix was delivered in.
Quarterly releases are now numbered using the date notation, e.g. 2020 R4 for the fourth quarter release in 2020. This now becomes the main numbering for the Sage X3 product suite. The equivalent application patch level is indicated in brackets (e.g. 12.0.24 for 2020 R4).
  • Behavior change indicates whether the fix or modification introduces a change in the behavior of the product, or in the product’s business rules or interface. This is important in identifying changes that may impact your customer’s business processes or validation procedure.

Refining your search

You can also refine your search in the Search fields and criteria section to focus on some of the important attributes of application patches, in the section:

  • Select Keys to restrict the search on the internal reference number (JIRA number); You can also select Others to make sure you include miscellaneous modifications that do not have an internal reference number.
  • Select Objects to restrict the search on the list of modified items (for example, searching for the screen SOH4 would involve selecting Objects and entering AMK/SOH4 or just SOH4 in the search field.
  • Select All to search through all fields including the text descriptions.

Approximate search allows you to extend your search to yield more results. For example, searching for the term invoiced with this box checked will allow you to find lines containing words such as invoice and invoicing. This will also take care of most spelling mistakes (e.g. invioce instead of invoice).

  • Filter the results further using the Filter and highlight results box.
  • Export the results into the clipboard or into the most common media formats (csv, Excel…) using the buttons on the top left of the Search section.
  • Display or hide columns using the Display Columns line
  • Sort the results according to a column.

Data update: Quickly update PatchFinder for a new Release

You do not have to reinstall the application if you are looking at simply updating the data used by the tool.

The data is stored in JSON files in the json directory of your PatchFinder installation path. They are organized by Product and by Release.

Sage will deliver a new JSON file with each new release of the Sage X3 product suite.

All you need to do is drop the new file into this directory and restart PatchFinder to update the data used by the PatchFinder tool.

The new files will update the filtering criteria such as modules, products and the release slider, dynamically.
